Reliably open pig gates

Thanks to igubal spherical bearings made of iglidur, this gate swivels reliably.

This pig gate opens doors automatically. Whenever a pig goes into or out of the gate, a compression spring closes or opens the door. In the past, the extreme soiling and ammoniac load in pigstys led to the bearings becoming clogged and corroding. This made the compression springs crooked and often led to breaks. With the aid of lubricant-free and dirt-resistant iglidur® plain bearings, the stainless steel spring is now only under load whenstraight and thus lasts correspondingly longer.

Profile

  • What was needed: igubal spherical bearing technology
  • Requirements: Bearing technology was sought that permanently withstands the high levels of corrosion, ammonia and dirt in the application.
  • Industry: Agriculture
  • Success for the customer: igubal rod ends are durable and reliable in use. They are also maintenance-free and cost-effective.
Pig gate

Problem

This pig gate opens or closes the doors completely automatically. The gate itself consists of a tension spring and bearing assemblies for swinging the gate open and closed. Whenever a pig enters or leaves the gate, the tension spring closes or opens the door. Due to the environmental conditions, however, the system was not very durable. This is because the extreme dirt content and high ammonia levels in the pigsty affected the bearings used at the beginning so severely that they corroded over time. As a result, the door's tension spring was crooked and often broke. The aim was therefore to find a bearing solution with a long service life and low maintenance requirements.

Solution

The solution was found in igubal rod ends, which are now responsible for the opening and closing mechanism. The important detail: The bearings are made from the material iglidur and are therefore completely resistant to corrosion. They are therefore the perfect solution in combination with the stainless steel spring. In addition, the bearings are dirt-resistant and lubrication-free, making maintenance work a thing of the past. From now on, the stainless steel spring is only put under strain when straight and therefore lasts longer.
